Boston Remodeler Inducted into National Remodeling Hall of Fame

Longtime NAHB Remodelers member Paul Sullivan, CAPS, CGP, CGR, said he was shocked when he learned he’d be inducted into the National Remodeling Hall of Fame.

“The other members of the National Remodeling Hall of Fame are friends, mentors and giants of the industry that I’ve looked up to my whole career,” said Sullivan, president of The Sullivan Company in Newton, Mass. “The fact I’m now inducted into the Hall of Fame with 21 others I’ve always looked up to blows my mind.”

During a remodeling career spanning more than a quarter-century, Sullivan has not only created a successful business in his hometown of Boston, but he has also given back to the industry on many levels. At the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston, Sullivan served twice as the remodelers council chair and as the local president in 2001.

In 2017, Sullivan served as the state president for the New Hampshire Home Builders Association. He was also the 2014 NAHB Remodelers chairman, the National Area 1 chairman from 2017 to 2018, and is currently the vice chair for NAHB’s Leading Suppliers Council and is a life director of NAHB.

Sullivan was also instrumental in bringing back The New American Remodel as part of the The New American Home exhibit each year at the International Builders’ Show. The remodeled home component was reintroduced during IBS 2017 and has continued each year since, with the 2020 installment already underway.

“Being a part of NAHB Remodelers is like having a full-time board of directors for my company,” Sullivan said. “Other members are always willing to give me advice and help me with situations I haven’t encountered before. I wouldn’t have that if it weren’t for [NAHB Remodelers].”

Now that he is officially inducted as a “giant of the industry,” Sullivan’s advice to remodelers starting off in the field now is simple:

“Remember there will be ups and downs, every day and every year,” he said. “There are good days and years, and bad days and years. But when you signed up to be a remodeler, that’s what you signed up for. You’re an entrepreneur — be proud that you’re a remodeler.”
